Samsung Announces Faster Internet Speed!

No better way to shop than fast and responsive internet when shopping for all your favourite deals on-line this festive period. Or you remember when you are all settled in to enjoy your a movie on your Netflix, or Instant Video, and the movie starts to lag while watching? Samsung might just have solved that problem!

We might not need to wait longer for higher broadband speed as Samsung the tech giant has been working on developing the next generation of WiFi modems. Modems are the devices you have in the house, that you connect to and get internet access. Samsung claims it will be 5 times faster than the current fastest speed which in about 866 Mbps. This in theory will download your Netflix movie in under 10 seconds.

This doesn’t necessarily mean if you got this modem today your internet will be faster. There are many other factors that come into play. Things like the internet speed you currently pay for, the speed of the device you are using and the area’s coverage. However, one thing we can be sure of is this, this is good news for us as these days almost all our devices are connected to the internet, and in the nearest future, technologies like IOT (click here to read) will add more of our devices to the internet network and there is nothing more needed than a very capable modem.

It is always a battle with smart phones coming out almost every month from different manufacturers, each vying to be the best coming out with new innovations and classic features to attract loyal customers.

Time to time, a phone pioneers an idea and most others follow. We saw this with the birth of the iPhone in 2007, every manufacturer went crazy after the success of the iPhone and the race has been even hotter ever since.

In a saturated market, there still comes a time when a manufacturer does something that helps revolutionise smartphones. We at Computer Potatoe think Samsung has done this. We introduce to you the Samsung Note Edge.

Screens Will Bend!

Displays have certainly gone through changes within the years. From the black and white screens on your old “much-larger-than-it-should-be” TV, to the colour TV, to the handheld devices like your phone, then to clearer colourful screens on small devices, to High definition screens on your flatscreen TV and your phones, 3D screens, Quad High Definition. Now it is changing again and many big companies have been working hard to make sure they find the next thing first.

Well drum roll please, the next big thing is a screen that bends. Yes, a screen that you can bend without breaking it. In fact, LG has just announced an almost paper like screen that you can roll cylindrically without affecting its functions. They take pride in the fact the 18 inch screen can roll into a cylinder with a 6cm diameter (that would be the cylindrical size of your typical air freshener can). They are not the first though, as Samsung had announced they would be making bendable screens in 2013.

As The Computer Potato only brings you information in a simple way, there is not much to be said about this technology yet. All we know about them is still technical at this stage.

The Use; Well you might think there is little use for this, but there are quite a few. One of them is viewing angle. Generally screens are dim when light reflects on them, with the “bendy” screens you can easily bend it into view.

Conclusion; Even though this is a very good idea, we won’t be rolling our phones into a cylinder any time soon. Why? Even if the screen bends, the other components of the device cannot so they have to attach heavily on one side (not ideal for ergonomics), until we find a way to make everything bendable in the future.

Samsung S5 Too Big Or Too Expensive? Learn About the S5 Mini

The Galaxy S5 too big or too expensive for you? Not to worry, the Galaxy S5 Mini is scheduled for a July launch according to a report by SamMobile today.

The dumbed down version of Samsung’s smartphone is rumoured to launch next month and includes many of the same features as the bulkier S5. These will include the S5’s water and dust resistance, heart-rate monitor and maybe the fingerprint scanner.

The Mini is also said to feature a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED Gorilla glass display, an 8-megapixel camera, 16GB of internal storage, 1.5GB of RAM and a quad-core Exynos 3 processor.

We don’t know about the price yet, but we are sure it will be cheaper as the Samsung S4 and S3 followed the same path in releasing a mini versions that were cheaper and scaled down.

According to a report by Forbes, “amongst those that did buy a Galaxy S5, 17% switched from Apple and 58% of European Galaxy S5 buyers were previous Samsung owners. As we know, Android is still the dominant operating system, with a 73.3% share of the European market. Apple is second with 16.6% and Windows Phone 8.1%”

Also in the rumour mill is the upcoming “Iphone 6” or whatever it will be called when it finally launches in September. This will be featuring a larger screen which is said to battle head on with the larger phones we see running Android, so as to gain back some of the market they are losing.

The Rumoured Samsung S5 Prime

You must have heard of the Samsung S5 as it recently was launched a few months ago and have already sold many millions. Someone around you must have a Samsung phone I am sure. With this new S5, Samsung promises even more features and a phone to love. Not long after, Samsung are now wanting to give you another phone that will top the all new Samsung S5. It is nicknamed the Samsung S5 Prime and will be available in South Korea, the homeland of Samsung. According to Samsung, the phone will have a better screen and a faster processor.

So what is this Prime about? A premium version of the Galaxy S5

When does the rumour mill say it will be out? Sometime in 2014, perhaps this month or next

The main selling point of this phone is you will be getting a QHD (Quad High Definition) so you can watch your videos even in richer quality.

It is said to be coming with a metal body as opposed to the Samsung S5

It will spot a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 chip unlike the 801 in the S5 so you can run your apps faster

The S5 prime is also tipped to come with 3GB of RAM and 1GB more than the S5 again so your apps can run faster and seamlessly

The last of the rumours which can only be logical is that it will be running the newest available Android 4.4.3 system nicknamed KitKat that promises more features for your phone.
